Danger in the hands: Diseases are at our fingertips! Experts warn: "We should wash our hands frequently for a healthy life"

Prof. Dr. Ersoy stated that the process of cleaning the hands correctly and for the required periods of time in order to live healthily and protect against many diseases is called 'hand hygiene' and said, "Why is it important? Because many diseases that threaten human health are transmitted to people through our hands. If we give the simplest examples, we can increase the number of such as dysentery, typhoid, flu. Many diseases are transmitted through our hands. When we do not provide hand hygiene, our body plays the most important role in the entry of microorganisms that we think of as pathogens from other people, sometimes from the environment, sometimes from animals, sometimes from the soil into the human body. For this reason, clean hands always save lives."
Prof. Dr. Ersoy, who stated that hand hygiene plays an important role in the increasing average life expectancy of people, said, "When providing hand hygiene, if we talk about hand hygiene in the social area for public health, it is best to wash our hands with soap and water. Of course, the idea that we will provide excessive hand hygiene here may lead us to make mistakes. A common mistake is to wash our hands with antibacterial soaps. However, soap and water are the best and sufficient."
Prof. Dr. Ersoy, who also touched on when to wash hands, warned that hand hygiene should definitely be provided before eating, before preparing food, and after using the toilet. Ersoy stated that the World Health Organization recommends hand hygiene after smoking due to the possibility of chemicals and ash transferring from cigarettes to hands during smoking. Prof. Dr. Ersoy, who also emphasized that hands should definitely be washed correctly with soap and water after contact with animals, after contact with garbage, after changing wound dressings or diapers, said, "This care definitely has a direct effect. I cannot help but say that the concept of hygiene is important in extending people's life spans and that hand hygiene is of great importance here."
Prof. Dr. Ersoy explained that when washing hands, first turn on the tap and let the coarse dirt flow under the water for a few seconds, then take liquid soap in your hands and rub your hands with liquid soap for a sufficient amount of time, i.e. 15-30 seconds. Ersoy, who said that it is necessary to rinse your hands with plenty of water after the hand rubbing time, said, "If we are not at home, if we are in a place where people live together, it would be more appropriate to dry our hands with a paper towel and turn off the tap with this paper towel, or even open the door handle with this paper towel if we are leaving the toilet. In this way, we continue to clean our hands."
